项目简介：
OPEN在2010年应邀参加万科集团组织的北京四中房山校区项目的竞赛并获胜。项目已于2014年8月31日举行落成暨开学典礼。该校区占地约45,000平米，建筑面积51,000平米，为36班完全中学，包括大礼堂、食堂、体育馆、图书馆、游泳馆、宿舍等完备的配套设施,将成为国内第一个绿色三星认证的中学建筑。
设计理念：
四中校园的设计来源于对中国教育现状的深入调研和反思。我们提出了一系列可实施的设计策略，在丰富的自然形态和多层次的社交空间之间，构筑愉悦而且高效的教学环境。
在能源危机、全球变暖、灾害频发的宏观背景下，让我们的年轻一代学会尊重自然，与自然和谐共处，已是刻不容缓的议题。新学校的设计将教室和实验室等普通教学空间架空于地面以上，排列在根茎状的空间组织结构内，构成高效联接的教学空间，

并最大化地利用被动式节能，如自然通风自然采光。教学楼的屋面成为学生的农业试验田。个性化的大体量公共空间，如礼堂、体验馆、食堂等，则置于半地下。校园的地面被解放出来，成为开放的生态公园和花圃。教学空间漂浮在屋顶的农田和地面起伏的花园之间，让学生在田园和土地之间快乐地学习和生活。
在社会性的塑造方面，新学校的设计里注入了大量的社会交往空间，这些不同尺度、不同私密性程度并富含情感内涵的空间，鼓励使用者在当中漫步、玩耍、相遇。教室被延伸到户外，活动被带入室内。在提高空间使用效率的同时，也使得学习成为富于乐趣的一种生活方式。
这所学校是一次对教育伊甸园的探索。当前大量的住宅区正在或需要建设，带来的是大量学校建设的需求。我们希望在设计和实施的过程中，研究和发展出可以应用在未来学校建筑上的一个新的学校建筑的体系，为更多的孩子们创造出利于身心健康成长的学习环境。
Ifthereisonethingthatwehavetoputaboveallotherissuesforthe21stcentury,thatisprobablythevulnerabilityofnature.AncientChinesephilosophyhadalwayscenteredontheharmonybetweenpeopleandnature.Inthedecadestocome,andamidstalltheloomingenvironmentalcrisis,itisurgenttobringtheancientphilosophybacktothecoreofoureducation,andputitinthecontextofnewchallengesahead.Withthisinmind,OPENhasdesignedanewkindofschoolsystemthatprovidesabalancedandjoyfullearningenvironmentintegratedwithfarmsandgardens.
Conventionalteachingspaceslikeclassroomsandlaboratoriesareorganizedwithinatree-likestructurewhichprovideseco-friendlyandefficientlyconnectedspaces.Advantageofpassivesolarandnaturalventilation/lightingismaximizedwiththissemi-organicshapedinfrastructure.Whilethe"new"teachingspaces-morecreativeandlargersocialspacesareintegratedwithintheparkontheground.Theirarchitecturegivestheformtotheorganicparkandgardenspaces,whileconnectingwiththeconventionalteachingspacesabove.

Thesetwotypesofteachinglandscape,theconventionalandthenew,theorthodoxandthefreespirited,thecurriculumandtheextracurriculum,thecollectiveandtheindividual,thenecessaryandtheoptional,arejuxtaposedandbalancedwitheachother.Whilethestudentsarecultivatedtorespect,tobalanceandtoprotectthenature,theyalsolearntobalancebetweenthesetwotypesofteachingandlearning,andultimatelybeabletofreelynavigateandintegrateallthesecontradictions,andbetterpreparethemselvesforthefuture.
Differenttypesofpublicspacesarethekeytore-establishimportantsocialrelationshipsthatareoftenlackinginadolescentsgrowingupintheinternetage,beitamongthestudents,orbetweenstudentsandteachers.Inthenewschool,classroomsareextendedtotheexterior,thegardens,whiletheplaygroundisbroughtintotheinteriorandclimateproofspaces.Togetherwithadominantcirculationandsocialspine,pocketsofpublicspacesformedbysproutslikecantileversoffthebuildingvolumehelptocreateawebofsocialspaces.Thesearetheplacesforpeopletomeetandinteractcasually.Theyfunctionlikeorganicfluidholdingtogetherthevarioustypesofspacesoflearning.
Itisourhopethatthephysicalenvironmentofthenewschoolwillinspireandfosterhealthierenvironmentoflearningandtobetterprepareourkidsforthefuturechallenges.
