On A Faded Violet
The odor from the flower is gone, Which like thy kisses breathed on me; The color from the flower is flown, Which glowed of thee, and only thee! A shriveled, lifeless, vacant form, It lies on my abandoned breast,
And mocks the heart, which yet is warm, With cold and silent rest.
I weep ---- my tears revive it not; 我哭泣,泪水无法复活它; I sigh ---- it breathes no more on me; 我叹息,它的气息永远不再; Its mute and uncomplaining lot Is such as mine should be.

我若是一朵轻捷的浮云能和你同飞, 我若是一片落叶,你所能提携, 我若是一头波浪能喘息于你的神威, 分享你雄强的脉搏,自由不羁, 仅次于,哦,仅次于不可控制的你, 我若能象少年时,作为伴侣, 随你同游天际,因为在那时节, 似乎超越你天界的神速也不为奇迹;

The flower that smiles today

Tomorrow dies;
All that we wish to say Tempts and then flies. What is this world’s delight? Lightning that mocks the night. Brief even as bright. Virtue, how frail it is! Friendship how rare!
Love, how it sells poor bliss For proud despair!
But we,though soon they fall, Survive their joy, and all Which ours we call.
Whilst skies are blue and bright, Whilst flowers are gay,
Whilst eyes that change ere night Make glad the day;
Whilst yet the calm hours creep Dream thou and from thy sleep Then wake up to weep.

Whilst skies are blue and bright, Whilst flowers are gay,
Whilst eyes that change ere night Make glad the day;
Whilst yet the calm hours creep Dream thou and from thy sleep Then wake up to weep.

See! the mountains kiss high heaven, And the waves clasp one another; No sister flower could be forgiven, If it disdained its brother; And the sunlight clasps the earth, And the moonbeams kiss the sea; What is all this sweet work worth, If thou kiss not me?
I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowersFrom the seas and streams:
I bear light shade for the leaves when laidIn their noonday dreams. From my wings are shaken the dews that wakenThe sweet buds every one, When rocked to rest on their mother's breast, As she dances about the sun. I wield the flail of lashing hail, And whiten the green plains under, And then again I dissolve it in rain, And laugh as I pass in thunder.
-选自《云》 其中的thirsting flowers,in their noonday dreams, my wings, waken the sweet buds, their mother's breast, as she dances,等都使用了拟人 personification)的修辞手法。“我”本是一朵无生命的云,然而诗人赋予了“我”生命,给予了我翅膀。如我时而温柔地为鲜花带来清新的甘霖,时而为叶子轻轻地遮阳避日,时而又凶猛地挥动冰雹的连枷,捶打绿色的原野。通过第一人称“我”来描述“云”的一连串的动作和形态,使得云变得生动形象,活灵活现。饥渴的花朵午睡未醒、留恋梦境的绿叶以及昏昏欲睡的新芽。诗中把这些植物拟人化了。暗喻(metaphor),在七、八行里把树枝比作母亲,新芽比作孩子。母亲在经受着云带来的风吹日晒,而孩子则安然地睡在母亲的怀抱里。诗人把树枝比作慈爱的母亲,显得十分贴切自然。夸张exaggeration),最后一行中将雷声比作“云”的大笑。诗人运用丰富的想象,夸张的特征,生动地表现出“云’的雄伟气魄。重复(repetition),如末三行开始皆用and使得冰雹急落,大地倾刻一片白茫茫,接着降下一场大雨,发出隆隆的雷声,这一连串的动作通过and的重复表现出来。其作用有两种;一是渲染了气氛,加重了语气,二是使得句子前后呼应,加强了联系。倒装(inversion),如五、六两行表达一个完整的意思,由于主语较长而谓语又较短,如果不使用倒装则使句子显得头重脚轻,失去平衡。使用了倒装,就保持了句子的节奏和平衡,使得意义表达流畅。押韵(如rhyme,本节中双行押韵,句尾押韵如。treams, dreams; one .sun; under,thunder. 句中押韵和停顿,每逢单行中间有一顿读,之间又自然成韵〔如;
showers ;flowers; shade, laid; shaken, waken; rest. breast: flail, hail;again, rain. I, l; from, from; and ,and.
fresh, for .flowers; light, leaves, laid; seas, streamsOne word is too often profaned

For me to profane it,
One feeling too falsely distaind For thee to distain it; One hope is too like despair For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear Than that from another.
I can not give what men call love: But wilt thou accept not
The worship the heart lifts above And the heavens reject not,
And the desire of the moth for the star, Of the night for the morrow The devotion to something afar From the sphere of our sorrow.
I can not give what men call love: But wilt thou accept not
The worship the heart lifts above And the heavens reject not,
And the desire of the moth for the star, Of the night for the morrow

The devotion to something afar From the sphere of our sorrow. One word is too often profaned For me to profane it,
One feeling too falsely distaind For thee to distain it; One hope is too like despair For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear Than that from another.
The flower that smiles to-day To-morrow dies;
All that we wish to stay Tempts and then flies. What is this world's delight? Lightning that mocks the night, Brief even as bright. Virtue, how frail it is! Friendship how rare!
Love, how it sells poor bliss For proud despair!

But we, though soon they fall, Survive their joy, and all Which ours we call.
Whilst skies are blue and bright, Whilst flowers are gay,
Whilst eyes that change ere night Make glad the day;
Whilst yet the calm hours creep, Dream thou--and from thy sleep Then wake to weep. --
Mataphor Part 1
One word is too often profaned For me to profane it,
One feeling too falsely distaind For thee to distain it; One hope is too like despair For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear

Than that from another.
The poet compares love to "one word","one feeling" and "one hope". Even though the poet is talking about love, the word doesn't appear in the first stanza. It makes the poem different from other love poems which begin with the theme. Also, the poet keeps the readers on tenterhooks till the appearance of "love" in the next stanza, which gives readers a explanation to have better understanding of the first stanza. Part 2
I can not give what men call love: But wilt thou accept not
The worship the heart lifts above And the heavens reject not,
And the desire of the moth for the star, Of the night for the morrow The devotion to something afar From the sphere of our sorrow.
The poet compares the love in his heart to "worship", "desire" and "devotion" in order to make his love different from what men called love. The purpose is to stand out his love and to be accepted by the lady. Part 3
I can not give what men call love: But wilt thou accept not
The worship the heart lifts above And the heavens reject not,
And the desire of the moth for the star, Of the night for the morrow The devotion to something afar

From the sphere of our sorrow.
The poet compares himself to "moth" and "night". Meanwhile, he compares the lady to "star" and "morrow". There are big difference between "night"and "morrow" which indicate the great distance and gap between the poet and the lady. Because of that, the poem is full of artistic effect. Also, it shows the poet's sincerity and the feeling of longing for but cannot get. Repetition
One word is too often profaned For me to profane it,
One feeling too falsely distaind For thee to distain it One hope is too like despair For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear Than that from another.
The repeated words leave a deep impression on readers and enhance their feelings toward this poem. At the same time, these words echoes and produce a kind of happy and harmonious sound effect. Alignment
One word is too often profaned For me to profane it,
One feeling too falsely distaind For thee to distain it; One hope is too like despair For prudence to smother, And pity from thee more dear Than that from another.

The poet uses alignment in the first six lines. It enhances the effect of expression and better expresses the poet's feeling and attitude to leave a deep impression on readers.
