Abstract: In the process of American development，its equal, brave, optimistic, and humorous spirits support their people to achieve their goals one after another. The American spirits have created the immortality of soul and still keep on driving American to be stronger and stronger.

And the spirits still influence a new generation of America. In the independent war, they wouldn’t like to be oppressed by British so they struggled to fight against it for their pursuit of freedom and what they think was justice. The way quite differed from other countries. For example, Australia only used peaceful way to catch their independence while Canada still claimed the service to queen. They dealt with the matter never as same as a Confucian way and once they affirmed a vested interest they would do it without caring about the sacrifice and the bleeding, as was also reflected in their civil war. Bravery and pursuing equality were remarkable characters of Americans
New York’s gang-ho governor Dewitt Clinton, who dreamed of making American rich once, organized to build a canal which would change everything at that place and link the Atlantic Ocean to the whole middle for American. But the land didn’t always cooperate. With a wall of solid limestone detaining the project, people had to use powder which was very dangerous to open this big mountain. Eventually after 8 years of digging, nearly a thousand lives lost, 7million more than 100 million today paid, the Erie canal which was a miracle of engineering opened in 1825, connecting east and Midwest. They never fell back in front of difficulties. This example is an great exhibition of the American spirits. Some Americans feel that American spirits no longer existing in USA but it does express itself in a number of way. Susan Boyle who participated in British’s got talent hadn’t a beautiful face and charming figure yet still dared to shake on the stage. Her words that she desired one day she could become a professional singer as same as her idol Elian Paige brought her a burst of jeer from audiences and judges. But she still kept optimistic and confident, and never cared others’ denials to her. Eventually her voice struck us the moment she finished singing the first sentence of the song and owned a hall of applause. Susan Boyle was a small reflection of American spirits. Never gave up and always kept optimistic and positive. Obama’s speech also can be regarded as an example of modern American spirits. When he won in the vote he said: “ I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.” he believed a better future and believed his people were able to make it true, the stable belief and brave and hard-working spirits were just American spirits.
In a way ,the American spirits has created the immortality of soul and still keep on driving American to be stronger and stronger.
