In1969GalloNelsonproposal,intheuniversitycampusheldlecturesfortheprotectionoftheenvironmentwill,Hayesheardthisproposal,ontheideaofenvironmentallecturewillbeheldinthecityofCambridge.SohewenttoWashingtontomeetwithNelson.YoungHayestalkedabouthisidea,Nelsonoverjoyed,immediatelysaidtoappointmentHayes,andevenencouragedhimtotemporarilystoptheirstudies,concentratingintheenvironmentalmovement.Then,Hayesresolutelyhandledsuspensionprocedures.Soon,hetookNelson'sideatoexpand,todoalarge-scalecommunityactivitiesthroughouttheUnitedStateslaunched.
