春节是中国及一些亚洲民族一个古老的传统节日。因为相传年兽怕红色，怕火光和怕响声，所以人们便有贴春联、放鞭炮、敲锣打鼓等习俗。不同时期、不同地区、不同民族的习俗都不相同。

年”起初是一种怪兽的名字，每年一到这个时间就出来出来伤害百姓，一开始年以来大家都躲在家里，后来人们渐渐发现年害怕红色、对联桃符和炮竹，所以当年出来时大家就开始放炮竹、穿红色的衣服、贴桃符。现在过年的时候大家都放鞭炮来驱邪避凶。

人们为了纪念把年赶跑，人们可以过上安居乐业的日子，就把那一天定为节日，后来就成了中国的“年”。
