一屠晚归，担中肉尽，止有剩骨。途中两狼，缀行甚远。屠惧，投以骨。一狼得骨止，一狼仍从。复投之，后狼止而前狼又至。骨已尽矣，而两狼之并驱如故。屠大窘，恐前后受其敌。顾野有麦场，场主积薪其中，苫蔽成丘。屠乃奔倚其下，弛担持刀。狼不敢前，眈眈相向。少时，一狼径去，其一犬坐于前。久之，目似瞑，意暇甚。屠暴起，以刀劈狼首，又数刀毙之。方欲行，转视积薪后，一狼洞其中，意将隧入以攻其后也。身已半入，止露尻尾。屠自后断其股，亦毙之。乃悟前狼假寐，盖以诱敌。 狼亦黠矣，而顷刻两毙，禽兽之变诈几何哉？止增笑耳。
A butcher, with some bones in his load, came home late after business finished. On the way, he met with two wolves following him along. The butcher threw a bone to the wolves because of fear. One stopped with the bone, yet the other still followed him. The butcher threw one more, the other stopped while the former one followed again. When all the bones had been thrown to the wolves but they still kept following him. The butcher felt embarrassed and was afraid of being attacked both in front and back by the two wolves. Looking around, he found a wheat field where the field host had piled the firewood into a hill. The butcher rushed to the firewood hill and leaned to it, putting down the load and carrying the knife. Two wolves did not walk forward and stared to the butcher. Minutes later, a wolf went away, instead, the other, like a dog, squatted in front of the butcher. After long, it closed eyes and seemed relaxing. Suddenly, the butcher jumped up and cleaved the wolf in the head and added several times until killing it. When he was about to leave, he turned to the back of the firewood hill, and he found the other wolf was making a hole into the firewood hill. It aimed to attack him from the back. The other wolf had already drill into the half body, only left the tail and buttock. The butcher chopped the hip and killed it. Then he realized the front wolf pretended sleeping to lure him.
Wolves also were cleaver, but they were killed in an instant. How many measures of deception the beasts have? They are just adding the laughingstocks for people.
