The housewives are the ones who remain at home after children leave for school and their husbands go to the office. After their departure, they begin to do the same activities that have become a routine in their daily lives.
They are so preoccupied about doing all the things they have to do in the house that they forget about the mere fact they are lonely in the house. Therefore, they are surrounded by plates and clothes to wash or different products to prepare something to eat for the family. Then, they have to iron, to arrange clothes in the wardrobe, and clean the dust. All these ways to and from the kitchen are so numerous during one day, but they don’t even realize it.
The consequence is that housewives don’t have enough time for themselves. They just look in the mirror while passing in a hurry in front of this; they don’t have time to relax and read a magazine, watch TV or go and visit a friend. The only thing housewives know to do is to have the food prepared for the family, to have the entire house cleaned, and to do all this over and over again. And the worst thing is the followingtheir husbands do not offer them some moments of relaxation and go out somewhere, because they say they are tired after a long day at the office. And they have to accept it because all that her husbands do is for the better of the family.
Anyway, lately, this attitude housewives have, will completely change. They will realize that they have been doing useless things and that they will leave nothing behind them after their death. They will try to revenge at some extent, doing things that they have never done until then, just in the need to feel something different is taking place in their lives.

Do you often pay attention to some idioms Some problems are difficult to solve! But there are a lot of number expressions that can help. For example, if we put two and two together, we might come up with the right answer. We know that two heads are better than one. It is always better to work with another person to solve a problem. Some problems have only one solution.
You cannot be two minds over this. But with any luck, we can solve the problem in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. In other words, we could have our answers quickly and easily.
Sometimes we can kill two birds with one stone. That is, we can complete two goals with only one effort or action. But we must remember that two wrongs don't make a right. If someone does something bad to you, you should not do the same to him. If you are going out with your girlfriend, or boyfriend, you do not want another friend to go along on your date. You can just say to your friendtwo's company, three's a crowd. A young child in school has to learn the three Rs. These important skills are reading, writing and arithmetic. These three words do not all start with the letter R, but they have the sound of R. Teachers will give three cheers when their pupils do a good job. Some of my friends were confused and did not understand their schoolwork. They were at sixes and sevens. In fact, they did not care whether they could finish high school. They saw little difference between the two choices. But they were really happy when they completed their studies and graduated from high school. They were in seventh heaven. They were on cloud nine. Nine times out of ten students who do well in school find good jobs. Some work in an office doing the same things every day at nine-to-five jobs. You do not have to dress to the nines, or wear your best clothes, for this kind of work.
28. If you solve a problem without any difficulty, you can also say that you can do it ________. A. in seventh heaven B. on cloud nine
C. in two shakes of a lamb's tail D. at sixes and sevens

29. When Tom wins first place in the game, we can congratulate him by saying “_________”according to the passage. A. dress up to the nines B.put two birds with one stone
C.kill two birds with one stone D. give three cheers
30. Which of the following has the similar meaning to “in all probability”? A. Nine times out of ten. B.Two's company, three's crowd.
C.Two wrongs don't make a right. D. Two heads are better than one. 31. What is the best title of the passage A. Use Numbers B. Number Stories
C. Interesting Number Expressions D. The Importance of Numbers
D
Human beings are familiar with the elephant. But a recent study of ancient and modern elephants has come up with the unexpected conclusion that the African elephant is divided into two distinct species.
The discovery was made by researchers at York and Harvard Universities when they were examining the genetic relationship between the ancient woolly mammoth and mastodon to modern elephantsthe Asian elephant, African forest elephant, and African savanna elephant.

Once they obtained DNA sequences (序列)from two fossils , mammoths and mastodons, the team compared them with DNA from modern elephants. They found to their amazement that modern forest and savanna elephants are as distinct from each other as Asian elephants and mammoths.
The scientists used detailed genetic analysis to prove that the African savanna elephant and the African forest elephant have been distinct species for several million years. The divergence of the two species took place around the time of the divergence of Asian elephants and woolly mammoths. This result amazed all the scientists.
There has long been debate in the scientific community that the two might be separate species, but this is the most convincing scientific evidence so far that they are indeed different species.
Previously, many naturalists believed that African savanna elephants and African forest elephants were two populations of the same species, despite the elephants' significant size differences. The savanna elephant has an average shoulder height of 3.5 metres while the forest elephant has an average shoulder height of 2.5 metres. The savanna elephant weighs between six and seven tons, roughly double the weight of the forest elephant. But the fact that they look so different does not necessarily mean they are different species. However the proof lay in the analysis of the DNA.
Alfred Roca, assistant professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois, said, “We now have to treat the forest and savanna elephants as two different units for conservation purposes. Since 1950, all African elephants have been conserved as one species. Now that we know the forest and savanna elephants are two very distinctive animals, the forest elephant should become a bigger priority (优先) for conservation purposes.” 32One of the fossils studied by the researchers is that of ________
A. the Asian elephant B. the forest elephant C. the savanna elephant

D. the mastodon elephant
33.The underlined word “divergence”in Paragraph 4 means “________ ”.
A.evolution B.exhibition C.separation D.examination
34The researchers' conclusion was based on a study of the African elephant's ________. A.DNA B.height C.weight D.population 35What are Alfred Roca's words mainly about
A .The conservation of African elephants. B.The purpose of studying African elephants. C.The way to divide African elephants into two units. D.The reason for the distinction of African elephants.
