An old man dies. He leaves his son a lot of money. But the son is a foolish young man, and he quickly spends all the money. Of course, when that happens, all his friends leave him. When he is poor and alone, he goes to see a kind, clever old man. The old man often helps people.
一位老人死了。他留给他的儿子一大笔钱，但这个儿子是个愚蠢的年轻人，他很快把钱全部花光了。当然，这个时候，他的朋友 也就全都离开他了。在他非常贫穷和孤独的时候，他去找一位善良、聪明的老人，这位老人经常帮助别人。

The young man is very glad. “Am I going to get rich again then?” he asked.

“No,” says the old man, “You will soon get used to being poor and having no friends.”

城市老鼠和农村老鼠
There are two mice. They are friends. One mouse lives in the country, and other lives in the city.
有两只老鼠是朋友。一只老鼠住在农村，另外一只住在城市。
After several years the country mouse meets the city mouse. He says, “Come and see me at my house in the country.” So the city mouse goes. The city mouse says, “The food is not good. Your house is not good, either. Why do You live in a hold in the field? Come and live in the city with me. You can live in a nice stone house there. You can eat nice food.”
过了几年之后，农村老鼠遇见了城市老鼠。他说：“来看看我在乡下的房子吧。”于是城市老鼠就去了。城市老鼠说：“东西不好吃，你的房子也不好。你为什么住在田野的地洞里呢?跟我到城里去住吧。在那儿你可以住 漂亮的石头房子，吃很好的食物。”
So the country mouse goes to the house of the city mouse. It is a very good house. The food is really nice, too. But when they are eating, they hear a great noise. They city mouse cries, “Run! Run! The cat is ing!”
因此，农村老鼠就去了城市老鼠的家。房子很好，食物也确实很可口。但是正在吃饭的时候，他们听见很大的声音。城市老鼠叫道：“快跑!快跑!猫来了!”
After some time they e out. The country mouse says, “I do not like living in the city. I like living in my hole in the field. It is nicer to be poor and happy than to be rich and afraid.”
过了一段时间他们出来了。农村老鼠说：“我不喜欢 住在城市里，我喜欢住在我田野的洞里。贫穷而快乐比富有但担惊受怕要好的多。”
Yue Guang was very hospitable. One day he invited a friend to have a drink in his hall.
乐广很好客。有一天，他邀请朋友在大厅里喝酒。
While drinking, his friend thought he caught a glimpse of a small snake swimming around in hiscup.
在喝酒的时候，他的朋友发现自己的酒杯里，似乎有一条小蛇在游动。
Though disgusted, he swallowed the wine down, but the thought of the snake nauseated him.As soon as he got home, he fell ill.

After a few days, Yue Guang heard about his friend’s illness and its cause.

He thought that there couldn’t be a snake in the wine cup. So he went to inspect the placewhere they had the drink and eventually found the cause:

on the wall of the hall hung a colourful bow, the shadow of which happened to throw exactlyat the place where his friend had put his wine cup.
原来，在大厅的墙上，挂着一张彩色的弓，弓的影子正好映在朋友放酒杯的地方。
Yue Guang hurried to his friend’s home and told him about this.
乐广急忙跑到朋友家里，把这件事告诉了他。
As soon as his friend came to understand that it was not a snake but the reflection of a bowin his cup, he got over his illness at once.
朋友听了，才明白洒杯中的不是蛇，而是弓的影子。这样，他的病也就立刻好了。
