Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Zhang, Yujie, a senior student at No. 1 Middle School of Zhao Yuan City, Shandong Province. I am writing to apply for the program in language learning and politics via the independent enrolment of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). I really appreciate your time and consideration of my application.
I am highly self-motivated, reliable and responsible. Once I make up my mind to do something, I always do my best with all my heart. I am not afraid of hardship or difficulties. Instead, I constantly challenge myself to reach the next level. To name some recent achievements: with excellent grades from junior high school, I graduated to senior high being top one of my class; I also won the Second Prize in the National English Olympic Competition in 20xx.
I believe in hard work. As said in a famous Chinese poem, “Only after polishing will the sword be sharp; after suffering severe winter, will the plum blossom be fragrant.” I have mastered the basic skills in English: speaking, reading, writing and translating. What’s more, extensive reading has broadened by horizon. As for me, language is not only a learning subject, but also a culture, which infiltrates all aspects of life. Learning different languages will not only advance my personal development, but also give me the opportunities to show the great Chinese culture to the world.
Therefore, in addition to English, I would like to learn other languages, e.g. Greek and International Politics. I recently watched several videos of Madam Fu, Ying, and am deeply amazed by her smiles and the way she handles tough diplomatic questions on various international forums. Someday, I would like to become a diplomat like her, and I believe SISU will bring me closer to this goal.
SISU’s motto, i.e. Integrity, Vision and Academic Excellence, is a great inspiration to me. Its long history, profound cultural background, abundance teaching resources, excellent academic atmosphere and strong sense of modern era are great attraction to me. The open and modern learning environment SISU provides to students will greatly broaden my perspectives, knowledge and help me build the right values.
If I am admitted, I will be a proud student of SISU. I will work hard to demonstrate the core values in integrity, vision and academic excellence. I also hope to master the skills of life and to develop my own social roles, so that I can take on my own social responsibilities after graduation and be a proud alumnus of SISU, and to serve my country and society.
