InOctober2007IbeganstudyingClassicsandModernLanguagesatOxfordUniversity,butIhadtoleaveinmyfirsttermastheproblemsmydyspraxiacausedmeweremoreseverethananticipatedandIstruggledtocopewithday-to-daylivinganddevelopedmentalhealthproblems.StudyingthiscoursewouldgivemeanopportunitytogetbackintoHigherEducationandtolearnmoreaboutsomethingwhichhasalwaysinterestedme.
AlthoughIhavenoformalqualificationsinart,Ihavekeptupmypassionforitoutsidethecurriculum.Myfavouritematerialtoworkwithischarcoal,asIfindithelpsmetoportraytexturebetterthananyothermaterial,althoughIalsoenjoyworkingwithpaints,pencil,collageandIhaverecentlybeguntodevelopaninterestintapestryandrelishtheopportunitytoexplorenewmediawhichthiscoursewouldofferme.Ihaverecentlybeendoingalife-drawingprojectonwood,whichstemsfrommyinterestintheformsandtexturesinnature.IhavealsobeeninspiredbytheartIhaveseenaspartofmystudyofothersubjects.OnaschooltriptoSpain,IvisitedvariousmuseumsandwasparticularlymovedbyPicasso'sGuernicaattheReinaSofiaMuseumandIwasfascinatedbyHieronymusBosch'sGardenofEarthlydelightswhichIsawatthePrado.AtthePrado,IwasalsoprivilegedtoseesomeoftheworksofElGreco,whichIfounddeeplymoving.AsapractisingChristian,theartofthespiritualmattersparticularlytome,andIwanttolearnmoreaboutbothChristianartandtheiconographyandarchitectureofothermajorworldreligions.AnotherthingwhichleftadeepimpressionuponmewhenIvisitedSpainwastheMoorisharchitectureIsawin
